FracomTech Foundation Launches Water Project in Laberia Auta Balefi, Nasarawa State

In 2023, FracomTech Foundation commissioned a solar-powered borehole project to provide residents with clean and reliable water. The initiative was launched to end the community’s long dependence on contaminated streams and shallow wells, which posed serious health risks for families.

For years, residents in Laberia Auta Balefi struggled to access safe drinking water, often walking long distances to fetch water from unsafe sources. This exposed households to waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea, affecting children and vulnerable populations the most.

The newly commissioned project includes a solar-powered borehole and community water points, designed to deliver safe water directly to the people. The use of solar energy ensures the system is sustainable and cost-effective, reducing maintenance challenges and guaranteeing continuous operation.

Community members have expressed joy and gratitude over the development. According to local leaders, the water project has not only improved health outcomes but also reduced the daily burden on women and children, allowing more time for education and productive activities.

This 2023 water intervention is part of FracomTech Foundation’s broader mission to provide clean water, renewable energy, and healthcare solutions to underserved communities across Nigeria — improving lives one project at a time.
